What we do: Second Harvest Japan activities

Building an infrastructure for food security.

Food banking is new to Japan. We are still creating the necessary infrastructure for a viable, fully-functioning food bank. If you want to make a real difference, now is the time to get involved.

Food Distribution: Feeding the residents of Tokyo’s parks.

Second Harvest Japan volunteers to deliver tasty, nutritious food to homeless people in Tokyo every week, thanks to generous donations from Costco. Fujimamas, a restaurant in Omotesando, provides food which we redistribute to HELP, a women’s shelter.

Costco and Fujimamas’ generosity is an example of a process we’d like to replicate with restaurants and homeless communities all over Tokyo. We are convinced that other restaurants and food service operations will be happy to donate modest amounts of food on a regular basis. All we need are volunteers to deliver the food. It only takes a couple of hours to meet at the restaurant, travel a short distance to the park, and find people who need a good meal.
